Shannon Carnevale is an Extension Agent in Polk County, FL, where she leads the Natural Resources and Conservation Extension program addressing issues related to watershed ecology & restoration, invasive plant management, and forest resource management. Shannon collaborates with Florida LAKEWATCH by training volunteers for freshwater lake water quality sampling. Shannon's innovative approach to Extension programming related to water resources and conservation earned her the Art Hornsby Distinguished Extension Professional and Enhancement Award in August 2013. She is extremely proud to serve on two award winning Innovative Extension Initiative Teams; the Watershed Stewards Academy Team (2013) and Statewide Water School Program Team (2014).
Shannon regularly seeks out state, regional, and national conferences to expand her professional network, enhance her Extension programming & outreach strategies, and present on her Extension work in Florida. Recently, Shannon has attended and presented at the Association of Natural Resources Extension Professionals national conference (2012, 2014, 2016), National Urban Extension Conference (2013, 2015), Water Education Summit (2013, 2014), and Extension Professionals Association of Florida annual conference (2012, 2013, 2014).
Shannon is a past-chair of the University of Florida’s statewide Extension priority initiative “Public Awareness of Water Issues” and as a member of the Statewide Water School Program planning committee. She currently serves a a committee member for both the statewaide UF/IFAS Extension Water Website (under development) and is slated to serve on the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County Web Team. Locally, she also serves as Chair of the Urban Forestry Advisory Board for the City of Winter Haven, the chair for the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County marketing committee (2014, 2016) and is a past-chair for the Florida Association of Natural Resource Education Professionals membership committee.
Before joining UF IFAS Extension Polk County, Shannon worked as a project manager for the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, University of Florida, and as a biological science aid for USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (Gainesville, FL).
Shannon received her Master of Science in Agricultural Education and Communication (2015) from the University of Florida where she her research focused on the opinions of Polk County's elected leaders regarding water resources in the State of Florida. She received her Bachelor degree in Forest Resource Management (2009) from the University of Florida's School of Forest Resources and Conservation. As an outstanding fellow of the Florida Natural Resources Leadership Institute, she was peer-nominated to receive the Burl Long Award in April 2012.
